The Eyecare Trust, originally The Eyecare Information Service (EIS), was
set up to act as an independant source of information on all eye-related
issues, with the key task of raising public awareness about the importance
of regular eyecare, as well as the enjoyment and benefits to be had from
using quality eyewear.
Its primary role is to increase understanding about the work
of the ophthalmic profession, communicating with the public via the media.
This includes local and national newspapers, general and specialist interest
magazines as well as national and local radio and TV.
Additionally the Eyecare Trust co-ordinates National Eye Week every autumn. This is a period
of intense activity when a range of campaigns are run to heighten media
interest in eye issues and put eyecare firmly on the agenda. National
Eye Week provides the opportunity to create a forum for discussion of
eyecare topics and the Eyecare Trust is able to 'field' experts for televsion
and radio appearances.
The Eyecare Trust supplies a range of materials to its members that enable
them to promote their own practices as a free, reliable and impartial
source of information, as well as participating in the benefits of national
marketing campaigns.
For many members of the public, especially those who may be concerned about an eye condition or
who are apprehansive about visiting an optometrist, the Eyecare Trust
is frequently a valuble first port of call. Via its public helpline it
is able to ally people's fears, dispel myths and send out useful information
in the form of leaflets and factsheets. Our telephone service will always
refer enquirers to their nearest Eyecare Trust member practice.
