A view from the Eyecare Trust
Fifty days to go! The countdown to National Eye Week 2007 has now begun in earnest and plans are well under way. We’ve just completed a survey looking at trends in eye care for the over 60s, the results of which will be highlighted a series of template press releases that will be available from the Trust’s website and our annual practitioner resource packs. The resource packs will be mailed out in the third week of November in preparation for the start of National Eye Week on 10 December.
Remember, Remember
The Trust has issued a stark warning about the dangers of fireworks at the annual launch of its SPARKLER firework safety code.
According to figures released by the Department for Trade and Industry nearly a third of all accidents involving fireworks injure the eye.
The SPARKLER code outlines eight easy steps to help prevent eye injuries on bonfire night.
Driving in the Dark
As the clocks go back and the nights draw in the Eyecare Trust has published a guide to driving in the dark.
The guide was produced in response to a survey conducted by the charity which revealed how more than half of all motorists have trouble seeing clearly when they drive at night.

What the paper's say
During September the Trust created more than six million opportunities for the public to see positive eye care messages in publications including the Daily Mirror, Maxim, and Health and Fitness magazine.
Focused on the Future
The Trust has published a business plan outlining its vision for the future.
The three year plan is designed to act
as a framework for working with and
on behalf of the industry, to bring
about a positive change to government policy and public attitudes and
behaviour in pursuit of accessible and well-subscribed eye care for all.
