Season’s Greetings from the Trust
The National Eye Week (NEW) campaign fronted by actress and author Nanette Newman (pictured) has so far generated more than 47 million opportunities for the public to see how a sight test can improve the quality of life for millions of pensioners.
We’ll keep you posted about the success of National Eye Week as coverage continues to flood in. In the meantime however, we’d like to wish all our friends and patrons a very happy Christmas and a prosperous New Year.
Festive eye care
The Trust has issued some timely advice about caring for your eyes during the festive season.
The guide to festive eye care includes advice on the safest way to crack open a bottle of champagne, quick fixes to help brighten tired party eyes and seasonal advice for contact lens wearers.
See the benefits of your new year resolutions
Resolving to eat healthily, take regular exercise, quit smoking and reduce you alcohol consumption could not only help you look great and feel fitter it could also help you see better.
To help practitioners highlight how making simple changes to your lifestyle can help preserve your vision and dramatically reduce your risk of developing a sight-threatening eye condition the Trust has produced a template press release.
E-renewal
Friends can now renew their subscriptions using the Trust’s new electronic renewal form.
Sight test can help banish the blues
According to a study launched to mark National Eye Week millions of pensioners who fail to have regular eye examinations are at risk of depression and bad falls.
The Sight after Sixty report found that one in three OAPs who missed out on regular sight checks said the quality of their vision causes them to feel depressed and isolated.
NEW Events
Hammonds Opticians in Tottenham, north London, celebrated National Eye Week by inviting Mayor Sheik Thompson and his wife Kyoko to visit the practice to launch it’s Sight after Sixty campaign.
The Mayor and his wife handed out leaflets, chatted to patients and took a guided tour of the practice.
